Isabella Mellado is best known for her magical realist paintings on latinidad, queer identity and tarot. She works in a wide range of media including painting, photography, digital collage and sculpture. In combining symbolism from various cultural contexts, Mellado reckons with personal themes such as being in community, the gender binary, and the sense of duality that is inherent to being part of a diaspora. Her work has been featured at Povos Gallery (Chicago), Swivel Gallery (NYC), Material Art Fair (CDMX), The Bronx Museum (NYC) Kavi Gupta Gallery (Chicago) MECA Art Fair (San Juan) among others. Mellado has also completed residencies at Ox-Bow, the Studios at Mass MoCA, and the Vermont Studio Center. She has a forthcoming solo booth with Povos Gallery at Material Art Fair, and is attending the Fountainhead Residency in 2025.
